ZMax Variable Volt APV Rev 2, Chrome

This special version of the ZMax is exclusive to Madvapes and includes side ventilation slots for additional safety.

This is a variable volt APV made by Smok Tech that takes vaping to the next level.  This is really a variable power mod because you have the option of adjusting either your voltage or your power (watts).  The Zmax adjusts from 3.0 to 6.0 Volts in .1 volt increments or 3.0 to 15 Watts in .5 Watt increments.  The ZMax has a chrome polished finish and a maximum output of 4 Amps.  The Rev. 2 Zmax has one extra menu item (8) which enables you to switch between RMS and mean value voltage monitoring.  The RMS mode is more accurate because it samples the output Voltage repeatedly while it is powering an atomizer or cartomizer.  It is with these measurements that it is able to adjust for heat related Voltage drift.

The ZMax can read your output voltage, battery voltage and cartomizer / atomizer resistance.  This APV does it all.

In addition, the ZMax has a native eGo style connector that allows you to use both 510 and eGo style cartomizers, atomizers and tanks without adapters.  The eGo style connector does not have outside threads but typical eGo style parts fit flush down into the recess that is around the ZMax connector. 510 Tanks and other similar 510 items will screw in and be almost flush with the top.

The ZMax will accept Flat Top or Button Top IMR 18650 batteries with the standard end cap. An optional extended cap is available to be able to use 2 18350 IMR Flat Top or 2 18350 IMR Button Top batteries. (2 18350 batteries will not fit with the standard cap)

Never use non-rechargeable batteries in any device. Only use the recommended batteries for this device.

All adjustments and settings are made with the push button switch.  This includes a setting to turn your ZMax off for safe travel in your pocket, bag or purse.

The ZMax includes an instruction manual in English.

There is a 90 Day warranty for device failures under normal use.

Click here to see if you you have the correct atomizere or cartomizer for your device.

Cartomizers, tanks, batteries or other accessories shown in the photos are not included. This is for the ZMax unit only.

I ordered the Zmax Chrome Rev 2 to replace a Torpedo that I had been using from totally wicked eliquids for the past year. It finally gave out so I was looking for something a bit more friendly. I like the option between watts and volts a lot and actually prefer the watts setting myself. I turned off the screen light so it wouldn't drain the battery as fast although battery life is great so far with an 18650 in it. Make sure you order the extension cap if you opt for dual 18350's as it isn't included initially. I haven't tried the dual setup since I already had multiple 18650's on hand. The instructions aren't very user friendly and I would highly suggest watching one of the videos on youtube to visualize the different settings. I've owned quite a few different mods previously to this one with the torpedo, Odyssey, screwdriver and a few other low end beginner e-cigs and this one is great. The only flaw that I've found (reason I gave 4 stars) that I don't really like is the end cap isn't flat enough to sit very well. It rocks quite a bit when initially putting it on the table and could be improved upon but not a show stopper. Paired with a Vision VIVI NOVA tank it's quite a solid unit with no leaking and sucking in ejuice is a thing of the past.

I would recommend this over smaller or cheaper versions if you're a heavy vaper to save money in the long run even though the initial investment is a bit more with batteries, chargers, unit and tanks. Now that I've got a solid unit without any of the old issues from polyfill carts the only worry I have is ensuring I keep my juices from gingersejuice in stock so I don't run out :D (Posted on 2/4/13)

This zmax is truly one hell of a device, I already knew the menu system from my previous device now broken due to my pure stupidity (acrylicmax emerald) I love the blue screen on this one, the mod itself feels great, plenty of power. (Posted on 2/3/13)

I happen to be going tru NC about two days ago and i stopped by the retail store. told him i wanted something better then the lavatube i have and he showed me this. it is a bit hard to get used to the menu system but that is the only problem i had with this. this mad about 4 TV liquids i was going to throw away taste amazing. i kept hearing how much better the VW mods were and i didn't believe it till i used this thing. I would suggest this to anyone that has vaped for a bit. not for a new guy/gal at all. but it is well worth money. i would buy this again and again. (Posted on 1/30/13)

so i got my first vv and i love it of course.. had it for about to weeks i have no complaints as far as feel the vapor production flavor it puts out.. and i watched videos where people think its confusing to use.. after 20 minutes with it its a cake walk guys.. but i am wondering is anyone having a problem with the screen coming loose... mine seems to be pushing out and i feel like it is going to fall out any day now and also the button never rattled and now it does..i have treated it like a baby i have a case i leave it home for vaping purposes so i know i haven't done anything to it for this to happen, and for the simple fact that my buddy got a ss zmax and the screen actually did end up falling out after like 3 days of having it, he didn't purchase it from madvapes though cuz they had that long long period of sold out on all 3 finishes but they replaced it for him.. is this something that madvapes will warranty i cant get a hold of them wrote them emails but no response,,,i love it to death i just would rather have one in tact and not end up falling apart on me.. i only do orders with madvapes.. cuz i love you guys so please help! thanks (Posted on 12/14/12)

Love my Dream Machine!Review by Tammi

I got my ZMax today and I absolutely love it. I was concerned that it would take me some time to memorize the menu system, but it only took me a few minutes. I am using (2) 18350 batteries with an extension cap, a 3.0 ohm dual coil carto and I'm vaping at 7 watts. WOW does this thing hit! Plumes of sweet vapor with just a tad of heat. I took it up to 12 watts just to see what it would be like, but it was too warm for me. I don't care what people say on the ECF Forum, I love my ZMax! I'm so glad that I didn't get a Provari. Even for a "beginning" vaper like me, it's an amazing unit. I would suggest, to anyone who considers buying this gem, watch the ZMax reviews on You Tube. Watch all of them. You can never learn too much. The videos are informative and will help you get through the menu system with ease. The team at Mad Vapes is very helpful and they are willing to answer your questions, so don't be shy about ordering the ZMax. If you are on the fence about going with stainless over chrome, consider that the chrome is plated brass and the stainless is is stainless through and through. I ordered chrome because I like the look better, even though it's a fingerprint magnet. Some people have complained that the air vents are sharp, but I haven't noticed. It's very comfortable in my hand. This is by far the best mod for the money and you will not be disappointed! If you buy one of these, make sure to write a review, as they are very helpful for other potential buyers. I thank everyone prior to me, for writing their reviews. They helped me to make an informed decision! Good luck and happy vaping! (Posted on 12/2/12)
Excellent VV PV!Review by Stephen Sumrow

I have never used a digital variable voltage device before. I have been using the Puresmoker Prodigy for 2 years now as my main vape. I have been using several other manual and digital mods but I have always had to switch back and forth between batteries when vaping at 3.7v or 6v. With a manual mod a fresh battery will disharge at the highest rated voltage which can be around 7.5v for a 6v battery setup, and then it dissipates in power leaving the user with an inconsistent vaping experience. With the ZMax you have the same vaping experience from beginning to the end as the voltage regulator keeps the output power at whatever you have it set to. I will admit it is absolutely wonderful. I also have the freedom now to use a wide range of atomizers without having to change batteries. The ZMax can also tell you what Ohms your atomizer/cartomizer is rated at for those ones you have in a box somewhere without any markings, and from what I can tell is very consistent. It will also tell you the power output to your atty as well.

When you receive your ZMax it comes defaulted to using the Watts power settings. If you are unfamiliar with this it will seem you are having to use a higher setting than you are used to when vaping. I think this is the reason why some people say the voltage for these devices is to low in their reviews. You can tell it is in Watts mode by the display showing your number with a P after it while vaping. Also when you change the power settings in Watts mode it will increase or decrease in only .5 increments. I was dissapointed at first with the device until I realized this and switched it Volts. Now it is the best device I have ever used hands down. I also purchased the extension cap so I can vape at 6v. It is definately worth it if you like a warmer vape. I love the deep juice well as I am a compulsive overdripper. And for all you tank users out there the top of the center connection is cut a hair above the rim of the juice well around it. This allows for use of a tank without having to use a 510 extension for airflow and fitment issues. The options menu does take a minute to learn but becomes very intuative over time and is easily overlooked by all the wonderful features this PV has. I have tried several different batteries with the ZMax including one 17670, two RCR123a LiFePO4, and two IMR 18350 batteries. All worked well. The first two batteries are skinnier than the tube of the ZMax but they do not jiggle around inside, they remain tight and their connections are not broken by jossling or movement.
Overall I highly reccommend the ZMax to anyone who is familiar to the world of vaping and is looking to try different atty/voltage setups without paying a lot of money for several different vaporizers.

Well done Smok. (Posted on 12/1/12)

I recommend 2 18350 batteries, either flat top or button top, rather than using it with one battery, because you will get more vapor and a stronger hit. I have a Bolt and I bought the extension cap, so I can use two batteries and it works much better. (Posted on 11/20/12)
First vv modReview by Chris

I recommend this device to anyone who doesn't mind the size of it. It is big, if your used to an ego or a cigarette sized type. That being said, the device itself has been awesome the short time I have had it. Previously I had ego batteries, with various tanks atties and cartos. I was buying lots of different types of atomizers at different resistances trying to find one that worked well on the ego battery, and with different juices. Now that I have this device I would have a hard time not recommending vv mods to beginners. It seems like every different atomizer and juice is best at it's own voltage setting. All of the parts I had purchased, and didn't like at 3.7 volts I can now use and enjoy.
The device itself has a quality solid feel to it. The only other device I have owned is the ego, so I can't do a lot of comparing, but I can say I like how it feels. On my zmax, when you turn off the led, (menu 6) it turns off the screen and the button. I read a different review that showed only the button turning off, so I just thought I would clear that up. The menus took a day or so to memorize, but now they are easy to navigate. Battery life is pretty awesome with the 18650. It has a deep juice well/ ego tank clearance on top, that is nice for overfills, in case you accidentally do that. It isn't quite as quick to lock the button as the ego was, but I can excuse that for all the pluses it has. If it has long term durability, I will be recommending it to everyone that asks about it, so i hope that is the case, only time will tell. As far as madvapes goes, they didn't have the button top batteries I ordered but called me pretty quick to ask if I wanted flat top instead. I was fine with the flat tops, and they got my order out to me pronto. So all good there. Overall I am very happy with the purchase and I don't think I want to be without a vv type mod in the future. I would say to someone thinking that they will go with a cheaper, non-vv ecigg to save money, that you will likely spend the extra money anyhow trying to find atomizers and juice you like with the set voltage.
Happy vaping,
Chris (Posted on 11/18/12)

I have had a few VVs but wanted a VW like the Darwin. When i found out this did both I had to have it. Works like a charm, and I'm going on week two. Well worth the price if you want a quality e-cig. Looks hard, but easy to use. Glad as hell I got it!!! (Posted on 11/1/12)

i just got mine today and so far so good. love the choices in voltage and watts. i put a dual coil 2.5 ohm tank on this thing and its a beast! clouds of sweet vape. i have a bogger box that i had custom made by bogger box mods so im used to well refined and expertly crafted mods. this zmax is a completely different animal though. its a little long with the tank on it, but its a well crafted apv for people looking for the extra choices. Not my first mod but it is my favorite. It took me a day or so to really get fluent in how to change settings without my manaual in the other hand but now that I know how to use every menu I have never had this much control over my vape at the push of a button. Hooked it up to my voltage meter and it is spot on at every increment. I've also never vaped in watts before so its an easy transition since it also vapes in volts. Over all, well built with a great vape. A little hard to learn to use at first but when you get the hang of it you'll never put it down. (Posted on 10/18/12)

so far in the last 4 days of straight usages, Im definately enjoying this vape. I like the fact that when I replace the batteries that it still retains what my settings are good in my book. I never had the previous model (vmax) so nothing to compare it with other than a Provari, and really don't want to compare the 2 devices as they are not anywhere similiar. It comes in the "off" position, so goto the menu system to turn it "on". by default on this device it was set on P (wattage setting), and I left it on there vs using it in the volts settings. It seems to me that with 2x18350 batteries that it vapes stronger than the single 18650 battery, it was weaker in strength compared to the stack batteries, imho. I'm using Sku: 3868 (blue flat top batteries from here) and they are working great. so far, regular AW reds button top 18350s work fine or the Blue IMR flat tops work fine. Initially the flat top blue IMRs wont work with the standard stock battery end cap, so be sure you get the extended cap when it gets restocked. i have no way of verifying the actual wattages on this device, so hoping in the future that Madvapes will carry a meter that checks PWM devices. Just want to say thanks for fast shipping and a good product so far. (Posted on 9/22/12)
